By design
No child is ever alone behind a closed door
Our studios are designed for visibility. Sound-treated rooms have glass doors, so a lesson stays private to the ear but open to the eye. A child is never alone behind a closed door with an adult.
Cameras and clear sightlines run throughout the space, so there is always a trusted adult who can see what's happening.
Keeping children safe
- How do you keep children safe during lessons?
- Our studios are designed for visibility. Sound-treated rooms have glass doors, so a lesson stays private to the ear but open to the eye. A child is never alone behind a closed door with an adult, and cameras and clear sightlines run throughout the space.
- Are the adults who work with children screened?
- Yes. Everyone who works with children completes a background check and a thorough onboarding, with training in recognizing and responding to child abuse. Anyone with a relevant criminal history is not permitted to work with or be near the children.
- How do I request a background check?
- Every volunteer completes one before they begin, and we start it for you. Tell us you'd like to volunteer and we'll walk you through the process from there.
How Heartstrings is run
- How is Heartstrings governed?
- Heartstrings is governed by a board of directors, never the work of any one person, and we are building it in the open alongside the City of Springdale.
- Where does the money go?
- We believe you should be able to see where your support goes. As programs launch, we will share a clear picture of how every gift is used.
